WESTCOMBE Park’s former police station could be about to be turned into new homes.
A planning application has been submitted to Greenwich Council for permission to turn the old station in to flats.
Dulwich-based developer Burmbak Ltd has applied to create nine new 2-bedroom apartments at the red-brick building on the corner of Combedale Road and Westcombe Hill.
The station closed as a front counter over a decade ago but was used until last year as a base for the Peninsula Safer Neighbourhood Team, now located at Greenwich police station on Royal Hill.
The former police station had been costing the Met almost £72k per year to keep open prior to its sale.
Hardly a big surprise. I’m just relieved they don’t want to pull it down. I guess the car park might prove to be too tempting to keep – though wouldn’t landscaped gardens – or, even better, a little public space – be nice.
Was sad to see they’d taken down the old blue lamp – I’d hoped they’d just replace the glass with something clear, to keep the feel of the old place.
I have got a leaflet history of the police station written by one of the sergeants in the 1980s. It gives lots of stories – like the 1942 Rozzers Concert Party and the police pig farm where the Cherry Orchard Estate is now.
i agree about the lamp – but who else noticed the garden that used to be two or three houses up the hill – with lots of little pottery policemen – who were doing, well, things.
Thanks Mary – would love to borrow the leaflet off you sometime.
