Local pressure group, No to Greenwich Olympic Equestrian Events (NOGOE), has had six new patrons join its campaign to stop the 2012 Equestrian events taking place in Greenwich Park, including the well known TV historian, Dr David Starkey.
The six new NOGOE patons are:
- Dr David Starkey (TV Historian)
- Margaret Tyzack OBE (Award Winning Actress)
- Dame Jennifer Jenkins (President of the Ancient Monuments Society)
- Blake Morrison (Writer and Poet)
- Jonathan Sumption QC (Barrister)
- Sir Willard White CBE (Opera singer)
Do any of these people actually live in Greenwich?
Maybe someone from NOGOE will come on and clarify, but as Len Duvall says in his interview for this site, “Greenwich Park isn’t just for Greenwich residents. It’s a London-wide park, it’s a Royal Park, and it’s an international park” so I’m not sure being a resident is a pre-requisite for supporting the campaign.
Rob – I wouldn’t disagree with that sentiment at all.
However seeing as NOGOE’s main thrust has all been about self serving local interests IMHO I can only see this as the last desperate throw of their dice.
I mean with all due respect to David Starkey – arguably the best known of all their “big name backers” he is a bit like Marmite.
You either love him or hate him – and I dare say for most people it is a case of the latter.
Hardly someone who is going to get people flcoking to the cause I would argue…
